We’ve done a lot of work over the past few months for this magazine project and to be honest, it’s been very hard. I’m not surprised it has been, but I didn’t really consider how much work goes into a magazine press. There are very few days off, if any, and working in a group can often be challenging but despite all that we’ve pushed through and created a product that (in my opinion) is very good.
We finally have all our submissions for our magazine and whilst we didn’t get as wide a range of work as we thought we would have done we still got a high quality amount of work. We also got a lot of work from abroad including some photography from Russia and poetry pieces from Spain. We’ve also gotten pieces from published authors, which is amazing and goes far beyond what I thought we would get. It’s been really cool to see how interested people are in this magazine; we even got to collaborate with New Writing North and were featured in their newsletter which was awesome.
At first I was worried we wouldn’t get any submissions as we were a week away from our deadline and we had only gotten two pieces of poetry but seeing how far we got with submissions with the short amount of time we had left makes me wonder how much we would have got if we had more time. Maybe we could have gotten more short stories or creative non-fiction which would have been nice since that’s my main area of interest but the ones we did get were really good. We even got a review of the film Black Panther which is amazing and speaks about the film’s social commentary about race relations and colonisation.
I’m really excited to get it all collated and have it printed out. It will be a great achievement to have after all the hard work the other members of my group and I have done.
